Joan (Calkins) Faulkner
BATH – Joan (Calkins) Faulkner, 84, of Bath, NY passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Updyke’s Willow Ridge in Hornell, NY where she had resided for almost two years.
She was born in Avoca, NY to the late Demerville “Buster” and Carol (Stickney) Calkins. She married Denny Faulkner on July 6, 1991, who also predeceased her in 2022. He was the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her son, Steven Ohradzanski; brother, Donald Calkins; in-laws, Richard and Norma Faulkner, and sister-in-law, Sandra Dow.
Those that survived her that she loved dearly, her daughters, Carol Ohradzanski (Mark) of Cohocton, NY and Dawn Loveday of Tennessee; brother, Richard (Linda) Calkins; sister-in-law Annette (Frank) Failing; grandchildren, James (Rachel) Brandow, Erica (Shawn) Sweers, Mackenzie and Avery Beckmann; great grandchildren, Aspyn, Lux, Duke, Sawyer, Colson, and Layton. She also left behind many nieces and nephews.
Mom worked as a teacher’s aide at Avoca Central School for 26 years before retiring in August of 2000. She enjoyed working in her gardens and making their yard look beautiful after her retirement.
Mom was a long-time member of the VFW in Bath and loved to go visit with the people. She was a member of TOPS for many years. She also loved NASCAR and Jeff Gordon as her driver.
Mom was a very special lady who wore her heart on her sleeve. Forgave often and always tried to look at the good in people. She enjoyed going up to their cabin and playing around with the flower gardens while Denny made the lawn look perfect at their little hideaway. They loved sitting up there watching the wildlife, chatting, and having a cocktail.
Mom’s heart died when she lost Steven and then Denny.
Those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Avoca Historical Society, the Bath SPCA, or to the donor’s choice.
A private funeral for the family was held on Thursday December 19, 2024.
The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., AVOCA was honored to assist Joan’s family with the arrangements.
