Janet L. Cleland
AVOCA – Janet L. Cleland, 70, of Avoca gained her angel wings on September 13, 2022, surrounded by family. Janet was born on April 5, 1952, in Buffalo, NY. Preceded in death by her parents, Darwin Ost, and Velma Gardner Ost and four siblings. Janet is survived by her husband and soulmate of 27 years, Dennis Cleland and her children, Rachel (Clark) Davis, Valarie (Patrick) Kester, Rory (Erin) Wray, Tina (Steven) Belanger and Tammie (Jonathan) Wolcott, 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Janet loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Janet never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. Janet’s favorite place to eat was the Arkport Village Café and enjoyed numerous crafts, her flower gardens, baking and making candy.
Janet’s favorite holiday was Christmas and decorating her home with family heirlooms and handmade decorations. Each decoration had a story and Janet loved to share the history of each item with her family and friends.
The family would like to express deep appreciation and gratitude to our friends, family and community for the love and support provided during Janet’s illness. The staff and volunteers of the Vincent House provided the necessary physical and emotional support we needed during this difficult time.
Calling hours will be held at the Avoca United Methodist Church on October 24, 2022, from 2 pm – 5 pm followed by a memorial service at 5 pm. Friends and Family are invited to a reception immediately following the memorial service at the Avoca American Legion.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Janet’s name to The Vincent House, 310 2nd Ave, Wayland, NY 14572 or www.vincenthouseny.org/support-us.
The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, is honored to assist Janet’s family with the arrangements.
