James Raymond Morey

PITTSFORD/HORNELL – James Raymond Morey, 95, of Pittsford, NY formerly of Hornell, passed away Thursday afternoon (July 25, 2024) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Born in Hornell on April 11, 1929, he was the son of the late Dominic and Theresa (Lyons) Morey. On June 23, 1973 he was married in Rochester to the former Patricia (Brill) O’Neil, who predeceased him on Dec. 23, 1980 Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his sister, Ruth (James) Griswold; and a nephew, Mark Griswold.

A graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School, Jim proudly served his country with the United States Navy from 1950 to his honorable discharge in 1954. He resided in Hornell before moving to the Rochester area more than 20 years ago.

Before he retired Jim was employed as a civil engineer with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in Hornell. While residing in Hornell Jim was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Church.

He is lovingly survived by three stepdaughters, Michael L. “Mickey” O’Neil of Aurora, CO, Theresa “Terry” Kessler of Fulton, NY and Colleen Broman of Victor, NY; four step grandchildren; five step greatgrandchildren; one niece, Mary (James) Garofalo of Erie, Pa; two nephews, James (Petra) Griswold of Dallas, TX and Joseph (Bridget) Griswold of Hornell; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

To honor his request there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. FRIDAY (AUG. 2, 2024). Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may have masses offered in his memory.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Jim’s family with the arrangements.
