Doris E. Davis
HORNELL-Doris E. Davis, 91, of Main Street, passed away early Saturday morning (Sept. 4, 2021) at St. James Hospital in Hornell, after a brief illness.
Born in Hornell on Aug. 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Doris (Oyer) McCollumn. On June 18, 1955 she was married at the former Park United Methodist Church in Hornell to Leo A. Davis, who predeceased her on Dec. 21, 2017 after 62 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by two sons, Harold Davis in 2010 and Stephen Davis in 2017; and one grandson, Tyler Davis in 2013.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Doris was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1948 and graduated from St. James School of Nursing in Hornell where she received her RN certification in 1952. She was employed for several years as a registered nurse at St. James mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Doris devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was their most avid supporter and always attended any of their events they were involved in. Throughout the years she volunteered her time as a Campfire Leader and as a Cub Scout Den Leader. She will be remembered most of all for being a very selfless person who always placed other people first and was always giving to others whenever they were in need.
She attended the former Park United Methodist Church and the Hornell United Methodist Church.
Her loving family includes three sons, James Davis of Hornell, David (Apryl) Davis of Honeoye Falls, NY and Robert (Denise) Davis of Mercer, PA; two daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Pavloff of St. Louis, MO and Dorie (Michael) Landreth of Dundee, NY; also 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon Friday (Sept. 10, 2021) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following the calling hours at noon Friday. Interment will follow at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to their favorite charity.
