Donald J. Saam

FAYETTEVILLE/HORNELL – Donald J. Saam, 91, formerly of Hornell, passed away Saturday (Aug. 24, 2024) at his home in Fayetteville, NC.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Debbie in Fayetteville, NC beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 14, 2024).

Calling hours are from 4-6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 20, 2024) at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21, 2024). Committal prayers and interment, with full military honors, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont. A luncheon will be held a The Main Place, 251 Main St., Hornell after the services at the cemetery.

The services will be live streamed and may be seen either on the homepage of www.bishopdesanto.com or on the Facebook page of Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home for 30 days beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21, 2024).

    To my Father……
    THANK YOU for giving me 3 wonderful brothers, a beautiful sister and for being a faithful husband.
    THANK YOU for teaching me how to….. build a fire, shoot a gun, use an ax, swim, cut trees, how to whistle cool and to drive a stick shift.
    THANK YOU for letting my sister and I go on a road trip to Canada as teenagers….even though you were worried.
    THANK YOU for making us work for what we wanted and for spanking us when we needed it.
    THANK YOU for showing me how great nature is and for loving animals.
    THANK YOU for showing me what a great sense of humor can do and for encouraging me to play sports.
    THANK YOU for and for being in the military and showing us the world and standing by me when I joined even though you knew it was a man’s world.
    And THANKS ALOT for the mustache!!!
