HORNELL-Alice Marie Simms, 92, was received by our Lord with open arms Thursday evening (March 10, 2022) at her home on Lincoln Street.
Born in North Hornell on Dec. 22, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Llewellyn and Genevieve (Sackett) Davison. On July 19, 1953, she was married at the former Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hornell to her high school sweetheart, Carroll Edwards Simms, Jr. They spent the next 68 years building a family and making many wonderful memories before Carroll passed away on Dec. 21, 2021. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by one son, Steven James Simms on Sept. 16, 2021; daughter-in-law, Sharon Simms; and a brother-in-law, William Castle.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Alice was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1948.
She was employed at the former Kaiser Glove Factory in Hornell and retired as an instructor from Westinghouse in Bath, NY. She also cleaned many homes in the Hornell area until she officially retired in her 80’s.
Before her health declined, Alice was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell where she would help in any way she could. She enjoyed many interests and hobbies including, traveling, picnics, reading, baking, embroidery, crocheting, sewing, gardening and puzzles; she was very good at each one. Alice received her first cell phone at the age of 88 and quickly learned to text and made many new friends and communicated with existing friends and family, as well as learning Word with Friends at age of 92.
Her loving surviving family includes one son, David Simms of Hornell; one daughter, Suzanne (Stephen) Tobey of Corning, NY; three grandsons, Christopher (Bobbie) Simms of Rochester, NY, Matthew (Misty) Simms of Monterey, NY and Adam (Shannon) Simms of Avoca, NY; many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren; one brother, Richard (Patricia) Davison of Canaseraga; two sisters, Barbara Castle of Belmont, NY and Linda (Rocky) Burdett of Hornell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
