Bruce Alderman
AVOCA – Bruce Alderman left this world to meet his Savior and Lord on Monday (August 15, 2022), at the age of 82.
Born Floyd Bruce Alderman, on August 13, 1940, to Floyd M. Alderman and Dorotha E. (Petteys) Alderman, in Avoca, NY. He grew up on Neil’s Creek, attended school in Avoca, worked on his father’s potato farm and later drove 10-wheeler dump truck.
He married Erin O’Brien Dillon of Canisteo, NY on October 20, 1962. They had two children, Paul, and Noele, and remained married until his passing.
He loved working with his hands, repairing cars and trucks for family and friends, cutting wood, and hunting. But the most important part of his life was serving God. He served as an usher at Haskinsville and Wallace Wesleyan Churches. He was kind, gentle and loving; always ready with a joke and to offer help to anyone in need.
He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in January of this year, and passed peacefully, while holding his wife’s hand. He was preceded by his parents, his sisters Jean Pawling and Debbie Wilson, and his brothers Brian and Gerald Alderman. He is survived by his wife, his brother Richard Alderman, his sisters Carolyn Prentice and Patrica Krein, his children, grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Bruce’s life will be celebrated at Wallace Wesleyan Church at 11:00 on Saturday, August 27, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Elizabeth Rose Ministry.
The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, is honored to assist Bruce’s family with the arrangements.

Bruce was a man that once you met him, you never forgot him. He and Erin attended our fire dept. banquet in Hornby, and I was so pleased to visit and talk trucks with him. His pleasantness and demeanor was a class anyone would be proud to have. It was easy to see his love and care for Erin. It was my pleasure to have been able to briefly know him and his outlook on the spiritual and friendly aura that he emitted. Heaven is his home now, and some day hopefully we’ll be able to sit and chat with Erin and Kathy again. Rest In Peace my good friend, and God bless. Another former 10wheeler, Dan Bulkley.

Bruce had a hilarious sense of humor and a heart of gold, an infectious smile, and, as a youth, was a fun prankster. Growing up my sister Betty and I spent many adventure filled days in the summer at our cousins homestead. Bruce and his sister Pat were close to our age. My uncle raised chickens for eggs. One day we were collecting eggs in the three story hen house. We girls were trying to collect more than Bruce. When we had collected all we could carry the count was on. I had filled my basket and had eggs in my back pockets. Bruce sized up the situation as I proclaimed my victory. It was not to be. Lol. Bruce gave me a little nudge while declaring, “Not any more”. I lost my balance and sat down on the bottom step. The “sitdown” resulted in the loss of the eggs in my pockets. The lesson learned was, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, and certainly not in your back pockets”.
Bruce was a wonderful cousin, friend, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather,and uncle,I’m sure. I have no doubts God welcomed Bruce into heaven with open arms. May God comfort Erin, her children and his siblings, Richard, Caroline, and Patricia. There is comfort knowing he is no longer suffering and he is right with God.
