HORSEHEADS – Walter John Alsheimer passed away, January 20, 2022, at the age of 92. Born 1929 in Hicksville, NY moving to Avoca, New York in 1946. He was married to his high-school sweetheart Barbara Mae Jackson for 63 years at the time of her passing in 2013. Walt and Barbara worked for Taylor Wine Co. and was owner of Alsheimer’s Tax & Accounting firm for 42 years. Walt had a love for dogs and was an avid baseball player back in the day and continued his interest in all sports throughout his life. He was the son of the late Edward and Amelia (Rau) Alsheimer. Walt and Barbara raised six children, John (Kim Rae), Daniel (deceased), Patricia (Thomas) Broderick, Joan (Michael) Gabrielli, Robert (Linda), and Barbara Jean (Harry) Fuller, as well as having several grand and great grandchildren. All who share his passion for sports, family, and successes in life.
Walt and Barbara wanted us to thank the many people they have known and helped during their life and tax career. They had a strong compassion for helping families and made it their life’s mission.
The family will hold a private service and just ask those that knew Walt to share a good joke with friends or go outside and throw a baseball around with your child. God bless you Dad!
The Bishop & DeSanto (formerly Avoca) Funeral Home, 22 N. Main Street, Avoca is honored to assist Walter’s family with the arrangements.

Very sorry to hear of Mr. Alsheimer’s passing….thoughts and prayers going out to the family. Bob, being in the Alexander Street Gang, there were many times we were in and out of each others homes back in the 70’s. Your Mom and Dad were always very nice and welcoming. I remember.
My condolences to the Alsheimer family. Mr. Alsheimer was a great man.
God Speed to Walter as he reunites with Barbara & Daniel, his parents Edward & Amelia and his siblings.
Sincere Sympathy to the Alsheimer Family.
Nancy Vaughan
So sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.
