Michael J. McDaniels
HORNELL-Michael J. McDaniels, 73, passed away Sunday morning (Jan. 31, 2021), with his devoted family by his side, at his home in The Woodlands, 1190 State Route 66, after a long fought battle with cancer.
Born in Hornell on June 8, 1947, he was a son of the late Milo and Mary (Persichilli) McDaniels.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Mike was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1967 and served with the National Guard.
Before he retired he was employed for over 40 years at Stern & Stern Textiles in Hornell. After his retirement he was employed at Simmons-Rockwell as a driver and also as a medical transporter for CBR in Arkport.
Mike was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.
He loved NASCAR and especially enjoyed traveling and trips to the Casinos.
His loving family includes his wife of 50 years, Darlene K. (Stewart) McDaniels, who he married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Aug. 29, 1970; one sister, Mary (Gary) Richmond; two brothers, Robert (Susan) McDaniels and Peter (Connie) McDaniels all of Hornell; one sister-in-law, Annette (Phil) Curcio of Belfast, N.Y.; his faithful Dachshund, Dundee; also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; as well as several cousins.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Private interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1942.
