BATH-Charles O. Butts, 94, of Bath, formerly of Wheeler, passed away early Monday morning (Nov. 27, 2017) at the Steuben Center in Bath.
Born in Prattsburgh on Feb. 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Maynard and Alta (Drake) Butts. In 1945 in Wheeler, he married his wife, Evelyn, who predeceased him on Dec. 30, 2007, after nearly 63 years of marriage.
A graduate of Prattsburgh Central School, Charles was employed as a farmer and also retried from Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport in 1986.
He was an 80 year member of the Wheeler Grange, a member of the Avoca United Methodist Church and a former member of Wheeler United Methodist Church. He was also a past member and president of the Steuben County Agricultural Society, a former councilman and supervisor for the Town of Wheeler and a former member of the Prattsburgh School Board.
Charles enjoyed spending time reading and has always been interested in music and various governments.
His loving family includes his three sons, Fred (Judy) Butts of Alfred, Maine, Larry (Cheri) Butts of Hamilton, N.Y. and Rev. Barre Butts of Avoca; his five grandchildren, Candy (David) Hetzler, Tina (Dan) Lamphier, Jeff (Krista) Butts, Michelle (Adam) Demianenko and Corey (Adrienne) Butts; also, his 10 great-grandchildren; as well as his good neighbor, Maureen Fisher.
The Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St. in Avoca is honored to serve the family of Charles O. Butts.
Calling hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 2, 2017) at the Avoca United Methodist Church, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Saturday, with his son, Rev. Barre Butts officiating. Interment will be in the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to their favorite charity.

Charlie will be lovingly remembered by me as a lay circuit rider. He had a circuit of churches that he visited regularly. When I served Mitchellsville, I was blessed by his frequent visits during worship.
My condolences to the family for your loss. Charles was a good neighbor for many years. May he rest in peace.
My condolences, thoughts, and prayers are
with his family and friends. Larry, you look so much like your father. I’m sure you have lost a wonderful Father. God Bless him; may he rest in peace. May your memories keep him near, and bring you peace as well.
Sorry for the Butts family for the death of there Dad. We enjoying visiting with Charlie when he attended church at Avoca Methodist church. He will be missed.
