HELEN (DORMAN) CLARKE
ALFRED-Helen (Dorman) Clarke, 102, passed away Tuesday afternoon (July 11, 2017) at her home on Reynolds Street.
Born in Canaan, Vermont on April 13, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Rosa (Gosselin) Dorman. On August 16, 1940, she was married to John James Clarke, Jr., who predeceased her in 1981. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her five brothers, Carl, Lindy, Clark, Raymond and George Dorman and her three sisters, Rena Piombino, Doris Farr, and Eva Frasier.
A graduate of Cannan High School, Helen also attended the Ogdensburg Business School. She was a former resident of Queensbury and Glens Falls, N.Y. and has resided in Alfred since about 1992.
For 51 years, she was employed as a typist, stenographer and secretary at various locations, and retired in 1983 as Senior Clerk at NYSDOT in Hudson Falls, N.Y.
Helen enjoyed sewing, walking and playing cards (especially bridge and canasta.)
Her loving family includes her two children, John Stephen Clarke of Weirton, W. Va. and her daughter, Patricia (William) LaCourse of Alfred, with whom she resided; her seven grandchildren, Stephen Patrick Clarke, Timothy Sean Clarke, Brian Clark LaCourse, Kevin Graham Clarke, Elisa May LaCourse, Kimberly Michele Clarke and Michael Thomas Clarke; her six great-grandchildren, Patrick Stephen Clarke, Lindsay Elizabeth Clarke, Heather Nicole Clarke, William Lawrence LaCourse, Abigail Marion LaCourse and Ella Patricia Martin; also her three great-great-grandchildren, Nolan Nicholas Nery, Declan Clarke Nery and Phillip Stephen Beaulieu; also her four brothers, Irvin Dorman, Paul Phillips, Norman Grenier and Peter Dorman; as well as her nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Helen (Dorman) Clarke.
There will be no public calling hours. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Jude’s Chapel in Alfred where a funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday (July 23, 2017). Committal prayer and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (July 24, 2017) at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls, N.Y.
