RUTH E. FITZPATRICK

NORTH HORNELL-Ruth E. Fitzpatrick, 84 of Cameron St., passed away Friday morning (Feb. 3, 2017) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in Hornell on Nov. 4, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Bessie (Bentley) Shinebarger. On May 9, 1953, she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to Martin H. Fitzpatrick, Jr., who predeceased her on Oct. 8, 1983, after 30 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Thomas M. Fitzpatrick; her grandson, Martin Bossie; her brother, Richard Shinebarger and her sister, Dorothy Reitnauer.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Ruth was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1951. During her high school years she was employed at the former Woolworth’s in Hornell and later became employed at the former Big N and before her retirement in 1992 she was employed for about 27 years as a teller at Steuben Trust Company in Hornell.
Ruth was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell and a social member of the Carducci Lodge in Hornell. She was also a former member of the Ladies of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Ann. No. 194.
Ruth enjoyed playing cards, traveling and her “coffee club” with the girls.
Her loving family includes her four children, Timothy Fitzpatrick, Terry (Wendy) Fitzpatrick, Debra (Mike) Bossie and Ann Fitzpatrick (Frank Vaughan)all of Hornell; her eight grandchildren, Corrina Galliard, Michael (Brandi) Fitzpatrick, Lisa (Dan) Simon, Morgan (John) Allison, Courtney Bossie (Erik Crandall), Holly (Ryan) Taylor, Carly Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick (Alexandra Argentieri); her seven great-grandchildren, Donovan Galliard, Riley Fitzpatrick, Ozzie and Terry El-Damaa, Henry, Bessie and Marty Allison; also several nieces and a nephews; as well as her sister-in-law, Patricia Gorton of Florida.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Ruth E. Fitzpatrick.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell or to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

  3. I will miss Ruth beyond words! I am so greatful I had the opportunity to visit with her when I was home. We laughed and talked of all the babies! She so loved her children and grand children! My heart is broken! You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. Don and I were so sorry to hear about Rudy’s passing. We are in Florida and we’re just notified by our son. Rudy was a very special person to both of us. She was kind and caring and was always our Mom Ruth Freelands partner in mischief. Great many memories. We are so sorry for your loss.

    We are so sorry about Ruth. It was great to see her after Jerry’s funeral. I’ve been having some wonderful memories of Ruth sipping a cup of coffee with Mom while you kids/babes were scurrying around. Ruth was unflappable.
    You guys have always been there for our family, and we so very sad we will miss you this week. We are visiting our daughter Ali in Texas.

  6. It was a very sad day when I learned of Ruth’s passing. She took me into her home like I was one of the family. Always loving with that big grin. Terry and I sure gave her lots to pray for! Know you’re in our prayers during this most difficult time.

  7. Ruth was an extended member of my family. Mother to my brother’s fiance. She was a beautiful lady and was always kind. She always made me feel comfortable in her home. She shall truly be missed.
