GORDON S. FOX
AVOCA-Gordon S. Fox, 92, of Avoca, passed away Sunday morning (May 29, 2016) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath where he has resided the past year.
Born in Bath on May 13, 1924 he was a son of the late Harry and Florence (Ox) Fox. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Leon Fox and his grandson-in-law, James LaVerde.
He attended Avoca Central School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Gordon attained the rank of Private First Class and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Self employed as a painter, Gordon was a charter member and Past Commander of the Avoca American Legion Post No. 1315. He loved to fish and hunt and especially enjoyed playing golf with his friend, Joe.
His loving family includes his wife of 68 years, the former Waneta Potter; his three sons, Gordon (Joan) Fox of Hornell, Bruce (Chris) Fox of Avoca and Michael (Lisa) Fox of Bath; also his 23 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Gordon S. Fox.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service, with military honors, will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Daniel Pickering officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Avoca.
