CAROLYN A. BURDETTE

NORTH HORNELL-Carolyn A. Burdette, 80, formerly of Seneca Road and a former resident of Updyke’s Willow Ridge in Hornell, passed away Wednesday morning (Aug. 6, 2014) at Hornell Gardens.
Born in Jackson Heights, Long Island on Dec. 18, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Ann Boland Gaffney. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1953, she was married in Hornell to Robert Burdette, who predeceased her on Sept. 16, 2001 after 48 years of marriage.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Carolyn was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School.
She was employed at the former Cameo Shop in Hornell before she began her employment as a dietician with the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell where she operated the Coffee Shop for many years before she retired.
Carolyn attended St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell and enjoyed gardening, reading and going to flea markets with her husband and daughter, Karen.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Carolyn had a very special bond with her grandson, Bryan.
Her family includes her daughter, Karen (Bill) Bush and her grandson, Bryan Bush all of Rochester; her two sisters, Ellen Rageil of New Jersey and Mary Lou (George) Phillips of Endicott; also her niece and several nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Carolyn A. Burdette.
Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held in her memory at 11 a.m. Monday, with her brother-in-law, Deacon George Phillips officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to Steuben County Rural Ministry, P.O. Box 61, Canisteo, N.Y. 14823. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

  1. Aunt Carolyn was always so kind, loving and sweet to our family. Her and uncle Bob treated us like gold when we visited their beautiful house and it always brought us so much joy to see them. They loved their grandson Bryan more than anything. We miss her sweet voice but know she’s at peace with Bob in heaven. We love and miss you Aunt Carolyn.
