BARBARA G. TOWNER

BATH-Barbara G. Towner, 80, formerly of Salubria Road, passed away Saturday afternoon (May 11, 2013) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath.
Born in Hornell on April 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Bennett and Irene Gellien Gesner. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Harley, and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Nancy Gesner.
A graduate of Arkport Central School, class of 1950 and the former Hornell Business School, Barbara was employed by the College of Ceramics at Alfred, the New York Telephone Co., Arkport State Bank and the Southern Tier Mobile Library System; in 1998 she retired from Steuben-Allegany BOCES as a Senior Account Clerk.
Barbara served as President of North Central Senior Citizens of Bath and also volunteered at the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital Gift Shop as well as the Bath Area Chamber of Commerce and the Corning Classic LPGA. She also served as Co-Chairman of the John Southard Youth Recreation Commission for the Village of Bath for four years.
She enjoyed watching football and baseball and playing cards.
Her family includes her son, Michael Clancy (Karen) of Bath; her daughter, Patricia (Darrell) Gardner of Wallace; her four granddaughters, Kristen and Megan Clancy, Christine Gardner and Chayanne Miller; her four great-grandchildren, Bennett, Breighden, Levi and Isaac; her stepson, James Towner; her three step-grandchildren, Lucas Towner, Kelly (John) Murphy and Todd (Shanna) Gardner; her niece, Kim (Wes) Wheeler; her nephew, Jeff Gesner; and several cousins.
Calling hours are from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to Noon Thursday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at Noon Thursday with the Rev. Daniel Pickering officiating. Private interment will be in the Fremont Cemetery, Stephens Mills.
