FLORENCE M. CARLSON

AVOCA-Florence M. Carlson, 90, formerly of Dyer Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Friday afternoon (Nov. 30, 2012) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath.
Born in Avoca on April 5, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ester Stoddard. On March 16, 1952, she was married at the First Baptist Church of Avoca to David E. Carlson, who predeceased her on April 27, 2008 after 56 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her five brothers, Clarence, Owen, Raymond, Floyd and Robert Stoddard and her sister, Ruth Towner.
A graduate of Avoca Central School, Florence was employed at the J.J. Newberry Co. and W.T. Grant stores, the Avoca Broom Factory and Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport before becoming a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived for her family.
She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Avoca where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Emergency Club. Florence was also a member of the P.T.A. and enjoyed doing crafts as well as jigsaw and word puzzles.
Her family includes her daughter, Brita Carlson of Spencerport; her son, Eric (Alissa) Carlson of Avoca; her three grandchildren, Teresa (Christopher) Farr of Bath, Tech Sgt. David (Ashley) Carlson of Texas and Ester Carlson of Avoca; her three great-grandchildren, Bethany Havens, Christy Farr and Thomas Murphy; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Avoca, 1 Church St., where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastors Bill McFeaters and Brandon McAfee officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
Those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the Avoca Fire and Ambulance Service, 7 Chase St., Avoca or to the First Baptist Church of Avoca, 1 Church St., Avoca, N.Y. 14809.
Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.
