FRANKLIN M. “FRANK” GILBERT
ARKPORT-Franklin M. “Frank” Gilbert, 68, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, July 31 at his home at 7940 State Route 36 in Arkport.
Born in Montour Falls on April 2, 1944, he was a son of the late Howard and Elizabeth “Betty” Schires Gilbert. On May 27, 1997 he was married in Dansville to the former Sharon Sanford Stephens, who survives.
Frank was retired and was a former resident of the Hornell and Dansville area before moving to Arkport.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting word search books as well as NASCAR racing.
His family includes his wife of 15 years, Sharon; his siblings, Howard Gilbert, Sharon Thorpe and Betty Jean (Gordon) Travis; his four children; his five step-children; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two siblings; his son, Scott Gilbert and his grandson, Mathew Stephens.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
Arrangements are with the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell.

I only knew Frank for a short time. But, he was fun to talk to and seemed pretty friendly. He always had a smile on his face. He knew my dad from Watkins Glen and he loved to pick on me. I’m going to miss seeing him around the building. God Bless Frank. Your friend Fran

The thing that I remember the most about my Dad is ,when my mom died at the age of 24 he keeped us all together and did put us in fosterhomes.I thank him alot for that!I didn’t get along with him at times but no matter what happened he is still my Dad. Well i can honestly say me and the old man did’nt see eye to eye and we lost contact with each other but all is forgiven. I do have some great memories of all of us and ill hold that close forever.I love ya DAD thanks for making me the man i am today you’ve done alot for me and never known it. RIP love ya
