Howard enjoyed every aspect of his long and fruitful life. He was an avid gardener and craftsman with an acute eye for perfection. He was the first to be there for family, friends and neighbors whenever a helping hand was needed. Howard was not only a dear friend of mine an a wonderful nieghbor he was like family. We had done so much together, going to car shows, riding bikes, and going for walks. What I enjoyed the most was just sitting in his swing an having a beer and sometimes two with him but first he had to get his lawn work done. It was hard keeping up with him I would come home from work an he would have his lawn looking beautiful an I would have to mow mine again. Howard was like Tim the tool man I would only own a hammer, pliers,an a screw driver because all I had to do was walk across the street to borrow what I needed. He would even leave the garage unlocked if he was gone because he knew I would need somthing. I moved from N.Hornell 3yrs ago but I would still stop in an sit an chat an yes even borrow a tool. I am so glad that I seen Howard a couple days before Christmas. We sat an talked about the weather. He was all ways upset because he could not get out an do the things he loved most because of his legs. He told me that day that he was ready to go an I said that we were not ready to let him go. He walked me to my truck an I told him to take care an I would see him next year. The good lord must of wanted a good handy man to keep the heavens looking beautiful. He will never be forgotten an every time I mow my lawn I know he will be watching over me making sure I am doing it right. Love and miss you, your friend Fred.
Our condolences go out to the Doty family! God Bless you!
Some of my earliest childhood memories were of cousin Howard’s kind gruff voice, jokes with me, rough-housing and always letting me hang on one of his arms! He was always a kidder and had the best personality that really struck me as a kid, as I looked up to him as a role model. I always had (and will have) wonderful and fond memories of Howard and I am so saddened that he has passed. I wish I could offer my sympathies in person, but know that my memories are shared by those in Hornell who will be celebrating his life on Monday. Much love to him and the family … we have lost a very special person.
Larry, David and all. So sorry to hear of the passing of your father. May he rest with our Lord. I sure enjoyed him when we were young; he was a good man.
I just found out today and was shocked, God Bless.
Your Cousin Joe
