ROBERT J. “BUCK” CRAWFORD

AVOCA-Robert J. “Buck” Crawford, 74, of Cook Road, passed away Sunday (Nov. 13, 2011) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo, after a long illness.
Born in Oyster Bay, Long Island on Oct. 10, 1937, he was a son of the late John and Ruth VanVoorhees Crawford. On July 30, 1964 he was married in Glen Cove, Long Island to the former Jean Loveless, who survives.
A former resident of Oyster Bay, Buck graduated from Oyster Bay High School and served with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.
He has resided in Avoca since 1988 and was employed as a plumber with Main Plumbing & Heating in Hornell before he retired from Maccarone Plumbing in 1998.
Buck was a member of the Avoca American Legion Post and the V.F.W.
He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan especially of the Jets, Rangers and the Yankees.
His family includes his wife of 47 years, Jean; his four children, Colette Crawford of Oyster Bay, Robert (Kathleen) Crawford II of Avoca, Sean (Jen) Crawford of Chesterbrooke Pa. and Donald Crawford of Oyster Bay; his six grandchildren, Corinne, Robert III, Kayleigh, Dylan, Brendan and Maggie Crawford; his dog, Hover; his best friend, J.C. (Karen) Petty of Texas; his 11 brothers and sisters, Don, Richie, Dennis, Dekie, Pogie, Jibby, Joanie, Linda, Sharon, Wendell and Joey; also many nieces and nephews including, Vinnie (Rhonda) Crawford and their children, Austin, Alyssa and Rae.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Raymond and Billy and his sister, Ruthie.
Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Thursday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 3 p.m. Thursday, with Deacon Ray Defendorf officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to St. James Mercy Health’s Dialysis Unit, 411 Canisteo St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843.

  2. Although we have not met I feel that I have known you. I know the pain and sorrow that you are going through, as I was there almost 2 years ago.   10. Buck and I grew up together fishing and hunting the woods of Locust Valley. Due to Buck and his brothers I @ 71 years old am still enjoying these wonderful sports due to these wonderful men. Thank You for a life time of enjoyment. I will always love and remeber you! Sonny
