JOHN E. “BIG JOHN” FAIRBROTHER, SR.
AVOCA-John E. “Big John” Fairbrother, Sr., 63, passed away unexpectedly, on his birthday, Thursday afternoon (July 14, 2011) at his home on County Route 6.
Born in Buffalo on July 14, 1948 he was the son of the late Wilbur and Eleanor Ferris Fairbrother.
A resident of Avoca for most of his life, he was a graduate of Avoca Central School, class of 1967 and received an associate’s degree from Cayuga Community College in Auburn.
He was employed with Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport before his retirement.
John enjoyed bowling and fishing.
His family includes his wife Carol (Daniels) Fairbrother, who he married at the Wallace Wesleyan Church on May 26, 2001; his seven children, John E. Jr. (Kim) Fairbrother of Savona, Mary Elizabeth Fairbrother and Margaret Ann Fairbrother, both of Rochester, John Maxwell (Brenda) Lawrence of Bath, Jennifer Lynn (Roger) Cole of Prattsburgh, Jessica Ann (Mike) Wesley of Olean and Joseph Robert Lawrence of Bath; also several grandchildren and cousins.
Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with Terry Sutfin officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Diabetes Assco., 160 Allens Creek Road, Rochester, N.Y. 14618 (envelopes will be available at the funeral home) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
