RONALD W. BROTT

HORNELL-Ronald W. Brott, 60, passed away late Wednesday evening (May 4, 2011) at his home at 71 Church Street Court, after a short illness.
Born in Hornell on Aug. 28, 1950, he was a son of William B. and Betty Patterson Brott. He married his former wife, Nancy (Stephens) Loper ,who survives, in March of 1969.
A graduate of Hornell High School, Ron proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from during Vietnam from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, a combat action ribbon and an expert rifle qualification badge.
While raising his family he resided in Canisteo and moved back to Hornell about 20 years ago.
Because of his love of cooking he returned to school and in 1995 he received an Associate’s degree with honors in the Culinary Arts from Alfred State College, where he was also a member of the Sigma Tau Epsilon Society.
Ron was employed for the former SKF Industries and later for St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
He was a former member and past president of the Canisteo Volunteer Fire Department, a member and Past Commander of the Cpl. J.J. Mooney VFW Post No. 2250 and a member of the Cpl. Larry Hatter AmVets Post No. 245 in Hornell. He was also a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210 and the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364.
His family includes his daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Willsey of Hornell; his two sons, Joshua (Lisa) Brott of Canisteo and Michael Brott of Los Angeles, Calif.; his mother and step-father, Betty and Brad Hamilton of Hornell; his seven grandchildren, Megan Brott, Jake, Zach and Matthew Willsey, Anthony, Alexander and Josiah Brott; his three sisters, Judy (Jim) Bicker, Jean (Clarence) Freas, Cindy Plank and his brother, Steve Brott all of Hornell; also his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, William Brott and his grandparents, Burton and Hattie Brott and William and Clara Norton.
Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a memorial service will be conducted by the Hornell VFW Post at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by a funeral service in his memory. Services will conclude with military honors.
The United States flag and the Marine Corps flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., an exclusive provider of Veterans Funeral Care, in honor of Ron’s service with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in his memory to the World War II Memorial Trip Fund, in care of the Hornell VFW Post No. 2250, 245 Canisteo St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
