ELIZABETH ANN “BETTY” (MOIR) WILCOX
WHEELER-Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Moir) Wilcox of Wheeler, passed away at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath on Sunday (May 1, 2011) following gradual failing health and surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on November 24, 1919 to John and Cecilia (Walker) Moir in New Sweden, Maine.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Elwood “Abe” Wilcox and sons, Stanley and Dale Wilcox; brothers, Thomas, Albert, Stanley, Donald and Floyd Moir. She is survived by her daughter, Doreen Nicholson of Wheeler; her sister, Beulah Walker of Scotttsville, N.Y.; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Wilcox of Bath; also her eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
Over the years Betty lived and worked in Maine, Connecticut and New York. She was a genuine “Rosie the Riveter”, a beautician, school bus driver, waitress, hotel cook, and for more than 20 years, a family care provider. She loved her family very much, enjoyed reading, writing, crossword puzzles and especially Scrabble. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a marvelous cook. No one ever left her table hungry.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bath. A meal will immediatley follow at the Friends of Howard building, 7481 Hopkins Road, Howard, NY. Private interment will be in the Howard Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
