Constance “Connie” Marie O’Connor, 54, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Hornell, was taken to the arms of the shepherd Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 17, 2010), at the in-patient unit of Vitas Hospice, in Naples, Florida.
Born in Hornell on Sept. 30, 1955, she was a daughter of the late Lucy Brown Olds, who passed away on Aug. 17, 2006 and John O’Connor.
Connie was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School, class of 1972. She also attended BOCES and received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
She had been employed by Vitas Hospice prior to her lung cancer diagnosis in October of 2009. Throughout her life, Connie helped many patients and families cope with the loss of their loved ones due to Alzheimer’s, cancer, or other long-term illnesses. She always went above and beyond in her professionalism and the care that she gave her patients.
Connie was a loving mother, sister, niece, and friend, all of whom will miss her tremendously. Her family includes her adoring daughters, Megan O’Connor Lawhon and Emily O’Connor both of Naples, Florida; her son-in-law Tony Lawhon of Naples, Florida; her step-granddaughters Claudia and Sydney Lawhon of Naples, Florida; her siblings; Cheryl Anne Delmonte (Paul), Steve O’Connor (Julia), and Scott O’Connor (Sandy) all from Naples, Florida; her nieces Haley Delmonte, Mikaela O’Connor, and Kacie O’Connor all of Naples, Florida, Marana O’Connor of Hornell; her nephew Maxon O’Connor of Hornell. Connie was the granddaughter of the late Laverne and Bernice Brown and is also survived by her aunts: Margaret (Pug) Nasca (Bill), Marilyn Alshiemer, Carolyn Tibbot, Barbara Brown (Frank), and Sally Brown; her uncles Bill Brown (Eleanor), Tommy Brown (Barbara), Jimmy Brown (Sandy), and Roland Brown.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by uncles Jack Brown (Ann), Bob Brown, Laverne “Short” Brown, and Donald Brown.
Sincere thanks and appreciation go to all of the employees and staff at Vitas Hospice for the compassionate care extended to Connie and the emotional support they gave to her family. Her family especially thanks Elizabeth, Linda, Laura, Ashley, Bonnie, Joelle, and Chris who made her final days here on earth as comfortable as possible.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 27), at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 28). The burial of her ashes will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont, immediately following the Mass.
