STANLEY H. “POOKY” SHEPARD, JR.
HORNELL-Stanley H. “Pooky” Shepard, Jr., 74 of 109 Myrtle Ave., passed away in the presence of his loving family, late Tuesday afternoon (July 20, 2010) at Rochester General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Hornell on Feb 3, 1936, he was the oldest of 11 children born to Stanley and Beatrice McKee Shepard. On Feb. 13, 1960, he was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to the former Loretta “Jean” Dixon, who survives.
A native and lifelong resident of Hornell, Stanley was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1954. He was employed in construction by the Laborers’ International Union of North America in Olean before his retirement.
Stanley enjoyed picking berries and was an avid sports enthusiast as well as a lifelong Mets fan. He also loved to drive his Plymouth Road Runner in area parades and to take it to car shows.
His family includes his wife of 50 years, Jean, his four children, Karen (David)Winant of Hornell, Lori (Jason) Reese of Hornell, Stacy Shepard (Dave Haven) of Michigan, Gary (Timberly) Shepard of Hornell; his 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; his nine brothers and sisters, Kay Day of Hornell, Sharon (Ronald) Miazga of Middleburgh, Phillip (Lisa) Shepard of Hornell, Joan ( Mick) Alvord of Cummings, GA, Tracy (Fritz) Kelly of Wellsville, Lynn (Tom) Bob of Canisteo, Steve Shepard of Nebraska, Susan (Joseph) Pelych of Hornell, Patty (Mike) Spangler of Tennesee; his brother-in-law, Jerry Hall of Hornell, his mother-in-law, Pauline White of Hornell; his two sisters-in-law, Joanne (Dick) Curran of Hornell, and Mary Ellen (Glenn) Bossard of Hornell; also his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his two infant brothers, his sister, Sylvia Hall and his sister-in-law, Linda (Walter) Warczok
Calling hours are from 4 7 pm Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Inc., 285 Main Street, Hornell. Immediately following calling hours (7 p.m.) family and friends are invited to a gathering at the Hornell Elks Lodge on Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell area Humane Society, PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

I remember Stan and the Roadrunner! I would sit next door at my Grandma’s house and watch for him to bring it out. The Shepard family will always be very close to my heart.
