THERESA AGNES NORTON
HORNELL-Theresa Agnes Norton, 95, of State St., passed away peacefully Friday evening (May 7, 2010) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.
Born in Hartsville on May 28, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Theresa Velie Clancy. On June 26, 1948 she was married at St. Ignatius in Hornell to Francis L. Norton, who predeceased her on Dec. 27, 2006, after 58 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her five brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Eugene (her twin), Emmett and James Clancy; her two half-brothers, John Leo and Edward Clancy; her sister, Ellen Hadlock and her four half-sisters, Margaret Cosgrove, Florence Mehlenbacher, Mary Rhodes and Sarah Reardon.
A life long resident of Hornell, Agnes graduated from high school in Hornell and before her retirement she was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell and was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and St. Ann’s Church.
Agnes enjoyed crocheting and knitting as well as attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was also an avid Yankees fan.
Her family includes her two daughters, Mary Frances (Jeffrey) Balling of Yardville, N.J., Colleen (Lawrence) Castiglione of Jefferson Township, N.J.; her son, William (Michelle) Norton of Hornell; her 10 grandchildren, who she dearly loved, Stefan (Jill) Balling, Gretchen (Michael) DiMarco, Daniel Balling, Diana (Daniel) Vasil, Kelly (Brian) Reynolds, John (Adrianne) Castiglione, Katherine Castiglione, Gregory Norton (Christine McCormick), Michael (Elizabeth) Norton and Andrew Norton (Brigid Smith); her six great-grandchildren, Brandon Vosburg, Brenna Norton, Rebecca Balling, Christopher DiMarco, Jackson Balling and Alex Norton; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her nephew, Rev. William Cosgrove, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in her memory to St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

Aggie was a wonderful gal. She was such a big help to us when Tracy was going to Alfred. She will be missed by all who lives she touched.
