EDNA L. SHAUT

AVOCA-Edna L. Shaut, 96, formerly of Avoca, passed away early Wednesday morning (April 7, 2010) at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads.
Born in Howard on Oct. 20, 1913 she was a daughter of the late Aaron and Mina Williams Lyke. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roland Shaut in 1996, her son, Steven Shaut, daughter, Sharon Onofrio, her grandson, Richie Haff, her three sisters, Lilah Burdin, Leah Manwarring and Alton Lyke; her two brothers, Howard Lyke and Castella Reynolds.
A resident of the Howard area for most of her life, Edna was employed at Westinghouse in Bath before her retirement.
She was the loving and caring mother of six children, 30 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Her family includes her sons, R. Edward Shaut of Florida, Alton L. Shaut of New Mexico; her daughters, Geraldine Haff of Florida and Teresa J. Shaut of Bath; also her many grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca. Funeral and committal services will take place at Noon on Saturday at the Parker House (formerly the Wallace Methodist Church) in Wallace with the Rev. Douglas Towner officiating, followed by a celebration of her life for family and friends. Interment will be in the Howard Cemetery.

  1. Grammy~ you were my mentor, friend and guardian for my enitre life. I will miss you, but I know you are where you now want to be. I will miss being able to call and get your valuable advice! You were the most wonderful and giving person I know! I love you with all my heart.

  2. Teresa, Edward, Alton, and Jerry, although we won’t be able to be there in person, our hearts are with all of you. Aunt Edna was a very special lady and I especially have wonderful memories of her to treasure. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless.
