WALTER A. DREPENSTED, JR.

ARKPORT-Walter A. Drepensted, Jr., 86, formerly of Northridge Dr., Arkport, passed away early Sunday evening (March 21, 2010) at Hornell Gardens.
Born in Salamanca on July 3, 1923, he was a son of the late Walter A. Drepensted, Sr. and Dorothy Heinz Drepensted. On Oct. 29, 1955, he was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to the former Mary Rose “Marie” Musone, who predeceased him on May 22, 2004 after nearly 49 years of marriage. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his brother, Harry Drepensted.
A resident of Hornell and North Hornell for most of his life, Walt has resided in Arkport since 1990. He was a graduate of Hornell High School where he was a member of the football team. Walter served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to his honorable discharge in 1945.
Before his retirement he was employed for about 30 years with the United States Postal Service in Hornell as a letter carrier.
A member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell, Walt enjoyed caring for his home and yard as well as watching football and baseball on television.
His family includes his daughter, Kimberly (David) Bossard of Arkport; his three grandchildren, Michael Bossard of Canisteo, Benjamin Bossard of Corning and Julie Bossard of Arkport..
Calling hours are from 5- 7p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will take place following calling hours at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830 or to the American Cancer Society (for Breast Cancer Awareness) 1316 College Ave., Elmira, NY 14901. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
