Our condolences to the Slater family. Fred was an inspiration to us when we needed information on environmental and wildlife issues. He ALWAYS took time on his walks to stop and talk with us. A good man.
To Regina and Family,
My very deepest condolences to you all on Fred’s passing. I will be unable to attend the service on Thursday because of a prior commitment, however, I wanted to share my thoughts and memories of Fred. Fred was a good man, and an honest man that spoke what was on his mind and always looked after those under his care. He was the Region 8 Natural Resource Supervisor when I was hired in 1975. Fred was also the one that encouraged me to expand my horizon regarding the bald eagle restoration program. The last time I spoke to Fred that’s all he wanted to talk about, how successful that program has been. I will always, always remember him as a friend and a leader to be followed. I will also always remember that beaming smile. God bless you all and once again my condolences.
my sympathy to the Slater Family during your time of loss. May God comfort and bless you.
My sympathy goes out to the Slater family.
Fred will always be remembered by me as the consummate gentleman. In his quiet and unassuming manner Fred was the ultimate fish and wildlife professional. A leader who brought knowledge and common sense to the table in dealing with a myriad of Natural Resources issues.
I always enjoyed swapping stories of my navy (1960-1964) versus his navy (1942-1946). Although the times and equipment were different our mission remained the same.
Fred, you will be missed. Anchors away my friend!
Our hearts and love go out to the whole Slater family. May your hearts know peace in this difficult time of loss, and may Fred’s heart know peace in the hereafter.
I first had the privilege of working for and with Fred when I started with DEC in 1975 as a Fish and Wildlife Technician. Since I lived in Dansville we would often carpool and his friendship and career advice is something I have always treasured. He was the consummate gentleman and a true professional. My condolences to his family.
Regina and family, We are so sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. He was a wonderful individual and it was our pleasure to have known him (and you, Regina), both on a professional level as well as on a personal level. Please know that we will keep you and the family in our prayers and we will never forget you both as you were very special to us! Our love and prayers, Madaleine and Glenn Cole, 845-635-8103
My wife and I are so sad to see this obit. Freddie was quite a guy, we had many a laugh and many a joke with him. We still remember how you and Regina were our saviour in May 1984, when the flight from England was late by many hours. We had no way to go home and you drove us to a daughter’s in Bethlehem. From that day on we were great friends for life.
Freddie one of these days may we met again.
