WILLIAM F. “BILL” HANRAHAN
ARKPORT-William F. “Bill” Hanrahan, 76 of No. 10 The Oaks, passed away early Friday evening (April 10, 2009) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in Hornell on Nov. 29, 1932, he was a son of the late William T. and Myra Stuart Hanrahan. On Oct. 12, 1954 he was married in St. Louis, Mo. to the former, Gerladine L. “Jerry” Harrison, who survives.
A graduate of Hornell High School Class of 1951, Bill served with the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1956.
He resided in Hornell for most of his life and 15 years in Akron, N.Y. and was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railroad, retiring as a conductor after 44 years of employment.
Bill was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.
He will be remembered for being an artist and for his love of flying and his enjoyment of classical music and old movies.
His family includes his wife of 54 years, Geraldine “Jerry”; his eight children, Patrick (Linda) Hanrahan of Hornell, Robin (William) Biddlecom of Suffield, Ct., David (Yvonne) Hanrahan of Hornell, Thomas (Denise) Hanrahan of Galveston, Tx., Mary Bridget (Loren) South of Hornell, Kevin (Vicky) Hanrahan of Hornell, Stephanie Hanrahan of Rochester and William Hanrahan, Jr. (Michelle Davenport) of Philadelphia, Pa.; also his 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mary Hanrahan of Hornell and his two nieces.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his infant sister, Phyllis Hanrahan and his brother, Robert Hanrahan.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet his family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Ave., Elmira, NY 14901. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
