WARREN B. “ROCKY” HARGRAVE, SR.

AVOCA-Warren B. “Rocky” Hargrave, Sr., 87 of Avoca, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Bath Veterans Administration Center.
Rocky was born on December 17, 1920 in Cameron, NY to Bert and Clara (Davis) Hargrave. He married Catherine “Peggy Sue” Shea in 1942 and was preceded in death by her in 2005.
Rocky was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a combat medic and was a POW in Germany.
He retired from the Steuben County Highway Department and also owned and operated Hargave Satellite TV for many years.
He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched during his lifetime.
He is survived by his sons, David “Dick” (Lu Ann) Hargrave of Avoca and Warren B. “Joe” Hargrave, Jr. of Savona. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sandy (Mickey) Woodworth, Warren (Katie) Hargrave III, William Hargrave, Christopher Hargrave and William Hubbard. He also will be missed by his brother, Harold (Minnie) Hargrave of Bath; sisters, Virginia Ames of Bath and Alberta Seaward of Corning; also a very special niece, Nancy Hargrave of Bath and the many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews of the family.
Mr. Hargrave was predeceased by his brother, Wilfred (Velma) Hargrave and sister, Anna Mae Tacka of Elmira.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Bath V.A. for the wonderful care and love they gave Rocky over the past few years. They all were like family to him.
Calling hours are from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 2 at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Bath V.A. Center Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Hamblin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Bath National Cemetery.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent in memory of Rocky to the Avoca Historical Society, Griswold St., Avoca, NY 14809.

  1. Uncle Warren was special to me because he was very special to my Dad, Harold. Also, he taught me how to ride a bicycle when I was younger. He was a good man. You will be missed.

  2. Warren was a wonderful man. I enjoyed reading his books and learning more about my family. He had an interesting way to tell a story so that you felt like you were actually there. I learned so much from him and will cherish the memories he gave me!
