JEANETTE M. JONES
HORNELL-Jeanette M. Jones, 76, of 54 Cedar St., passed away early Sunday afternoon (Feb. 10, 2008) at Hornell Gardens.
Born in Wellsville on Oct. 20, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Vinah Heysham Gavitt. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Patricia Jones, her four grandchildren, Wayne Lippincott, Shawn Jones, Carl Hills and Jedidiah Jones; her sister, Gertrude Moyer and her half brother, Richard Hungerford.
A graduate of Wellsville High School, Jeanette has resided in Hornell for
most of her life.
She was employed as a cook for the former Big Elms Restaurant and the Hornell Country Club. She also tended bar at the former Downey’s and for Millie Flanagan’s also in Hornell. Later she was employed as an office manager for the Cole Construction Co. in Springville before she began her employment at the former Williams Inn in Hornell.
Jeanette was a former member of the Women of the Moose, Hornell Lodge No.210 and the Hornell Association.
When she was younger she enjoyed singing and presently she spent time doing various crafts. Her family was her main interest and she loved to bake for them. She will be remembered by her grandchildren, who loved her homemade butterscotch cookies and enjoyed spending time with her, as the #l Grandma. Jeanette also loved her cats.
Her family includes her life partner of 30 years, Lawrence Terry of Hornell; her five children, Rhonda (David) Hills of Idaho, Pamela Lippincott and Sheila (Samuel) Jackson all of Hornell, Steven (Darlene) Jones of Ohio and Roberta (Dale) Dunham of Cohocton; her stepson, Shawn (Linda) Terry of Virginia; her 13 grandchildren, William Lippincott, Nathan Woodruff, Robert Jones, Derrick Smolos, Stephanie Jones, Christopher Jones, Patricia Drake, Robert Drake, Christopher (Cindy) Drake, Kyle Jackson, David (Bambi) Jackson, Sarah Jackson and Murray Dunham; her six great-grandchildren, Keegan Drake, Hunter Mosher, Sammy Drake, Kreyanna, Shynell and Joslynn Jackson; her twin sister, Jean (Bernard) Bessey of Friendship; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 2-4 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 4 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Bob Schooley officiating.
