BATH – Merlyn D. Polmanteer passed peacefully on September 3, 2026, at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Horseheads, New York.

He was born in Bath, NY, on March 15, 1942, to the late Hazel (Sick) and Erwin Polmanteer of Avoca, New York, and attended Avoca Central School.

On July 13, 1963, he married the love of his life, Margaret Tomb.

Merlyn worked for Mercury Aircraft in Bath, Hammondsport, for over 40 years before retiring.

He loved motorcycle riding and especially his motorcycle, ‘Clyde’, which he’d frequently say he was “taking on a walk”.

He had a love for old cars and was the proud owner of a 1984 Mustang GT 5.0. When he wasn’t on the road himself, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and his favorite driver, Mark Martin.

He is predeceased by his above-mentioned parents and brother Glen Polmanteer.

Merlyn is lovingly survived by his wife, Margaret Polmanteer, daughters Patty (Michael) Polmanteer Day and Tammy (Brian) Polmanteer, his “one and only” granddaughter, Keshia (John) Day Tucker, and his southern family to whom he’d say, “I’m going to miss ya’ll”.

A celebration of Merlyn’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, Hammondsport, is honored to assist the Polmanteer family with the arrangements.

Online condolences or remembrances of Merlyn are welcome below or on the Facebook page of Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home.
