HORNELL – Shirley Carol Moore, 84, of Hornell, entered into rest early Friday evening (Feb. 28, 2025) at St. James Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Austinburg, PA on March 24, 1940 she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Marion (Baker) Stiles. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Terry Moore and Jamie Moore; also one brother, Bill Stiles.

Shirley attended school in Westfield, PA and was a former resident of the Port Byron and Auburn, NY area and was currently a resident of Hornell.

While residing in Hornell she was employed as a civil engineer for the New

York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) before retiring.

Shirley loved animals and enjoyed spending time making floral arrangements, and when she was younger, she desired to become an interior decorator.

She is lovingly survived by three children, Kevin Moore (Amy Griffin) of Rochester, NY, Kelley (Harold “Butch”) Lee of Hornell and Jodi Campbell (Tim Doherty) also of Hornell; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell, is honored to assist Shirley’s family with the arrangements.

  1. Shirley and I worked together for many years at NYSDOT as Right-of-Way Acquisition Agents, relocating many people from properties being acquired by the state for highway construction projects. We worked as a team, hand-in-glove, to get the job done. I am so saddened to learn of her passing, and extend my sincere condolences to her family. Tom McIlroy, Dundee, NY.
