HAMMONDSPORT – Betty J. Goodwin, 95, passed peacefully late Wednesday evening (April 2, 2025) at Steuben Center Nursing Home in Bath, New York.

Born in Elmira, NY, on May 9, 1929, she proudly became the first female officer at Chemung Canal Trust Company, where she worked until retirement.

She was an avid golfer and could often be found watching a Philadelphia Phillies game or enjoying the lake with a drink in her hand.

Betty will be fondly remembered by her surviving sister, Donna (Joseph) Peters, son, Mark (Lynn) Goodwin, daughter, Janet Goodwin (Bradena Cheney), two grandsons, Cody (Stephanie) Goodwin, and Eric Goodwin (Mariah Melendy), two great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Theodore Goodwin, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Earl Goodwin, parents Robert and Esther (McNaney) Ruggles, and brother Robert Ruggles.

Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport, is honored to assist Betty’s family with the arrangements.

  3. Betty, wow it’s been many many years since I’ve seen you or talked with you, I worked many years with you at CCTC and always found you as a wonderful joyous person. I bet you will be missed tremendously. Just seeing you brings back great memories of you and Jack Baatersby working side by side. 4IP to one of the best co workers I ever had😓😓😓🙏🙏🙏
