KENMORE – Emily Elizabeth Cady, 33, of Kenmore, NY, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Strong Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and Celiac Disease.

Born May 17, 1991, in Wellsville, NY, Emily was the beloved daughter of Robert J. and Carolyn A. (Dunleavy) Cady. She was baptized at St. Gabriel’s Church in Hammondsport, made her First Holy Communion at St. Mary’s Church in Bolivar, and was confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Emily attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Houghton Academy in 2009. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from SUNY Potsdam in 2013 and later earned dual Master’s degrees in Critical Museum Studies and Information and Library Science from the University at Buffalo in 2018. Her studies also took her to the University of Rome, and she enjoyed traveling throughout Europe during high school and college.

Emily worked at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, various local libraries, and with private art collectors. She had a deep appreciation for history, culture, and the arts, and was a passionate supporter of local artists, often serving as a model for their work.

Emily had the soul of an artist. She found joy in antiquing, crafting, fashion, and music. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved musical theatre and chorus from a young age. Emily was truly a character-funny, spirited, and full of personality. She brought light and laughter to those around her with her quick wit, expressive style, and fearless individuality. Her love of animals was profound, especially for her cherished cats, Pippa Jean and Rosie, adopted from the Ten Lives Club Animal Shelter. She also had an early love for The Wizard of Oz, which reflected her creative spirit and her appreciation for beauty, and the wonder found in art and life.

Emily is survived by her loving parents, Robert and Carolyn Cady; her siblings, James R.D. Cady, and Alice G. Cady (Joseph Miller); and her adored nephews, Joseph Dean and Everett James Miller. She is also survived by her maternal uncles, James and Dennis Dunleavy; paternal grandfather, Donald L. Cady; aunts Pamela Cady and Beth Cady Flatau (Ian); and uncle Raymond Cady (Kristen). Emily is fondly remembered by many cousins and an extended circle of family and friends.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, James and Lovella Dunleavy, and her paternal grandmother, Rebecca Cady.

A funeral service for Emily will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, June 14 2025, at St. Gabriel’s Parish Church, 78 Shethar St., Hammondsport.

Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main Street, Hammondsport, is honored to assist Emily’s family with the arrangements.

  1. Emily was my roommate for three years and honestly felt more like a sister than a friend. I will always miss her, speak her name, and honor her. Thank you, Emily, for your once-in-a-lifetime friendship ❤️

  3. Photos are of Emily and Aunt Pam, Emily and Alice at dance studio show very young, and Emily with Alice’s wedding party including cousin Kelsea.

  4. Emily and I met while working at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery about 12 years ago. Our friendship quickly developed into such a strong sisterhood that people didn’t even believe that we weren’t sisters. She adored my children, who will forever be their Auntie Em, and loved her cats with all her being. I will cherish all of our wonderful memories together of going to art galleries, taking the kids on adventures around town, dyeing our hair in my bathroom, laughing hysterically at cat videos, and exchanging the most ridiculous selfies. I love you Emily! You’ll always be with us.💖
    Love,
    Carrie

  5. I remember meeting her in art class in Wellsville High School. I was new and she was incredibly kind to me when I needed it the most. I remember talking to her and connecting with art. It broke my heart so badly to read about her passing. She was a pillar in the art community and a shining light from Wellsville. She was truly a beautiful soul and she will always be remembered. Sending love to the whole family. There are some special photos of her on the public Wellsville Sonnontouan website under the 2007/2008 yearbooks. God bless you to her whole family, she touched everyone she knew.

  6. Mustaches and flowers and laughter for hours. Thanks to our girl Carrie for bringing us together during the Hot Girl Summa, we instantly hit it off the second we met.

Emily, your name is literally tattooed on my body because of my dear daughter and now your memory and genuine love and kindness is forever tattooed on my heart!

We hung out and got close quick,
but sadly you were often very sick. You never were one to complain, even though I knew you were in immense pain.

My son fell in love with you too! I am forever grateful he also met you! One day we will meet again my friend. In heaven is where there is no pain, only pure joy and bliss. I can’t wait to see you again sis!

My sympathies go out to your family and friends. Your memory will live on through them. Stories of you and your pure spirit will be told and smiles will still be had, thinking of you will be happy yet sad. Thank you for allowing me the honor to be a small part of your story.
