William R. Romig
HAMMONDSPORT – William R. Romig 79, of Hammondsport, NY more recently residing in Southern New Jersey
with his family passed away unexpectedly Sunday June 23rd .
William, more loving known as Bill was born on May 26 th 1945 to Doris and Marwood Romig in
Buffalo, NY where he spoke of fond memories growing up on the “Romig Hill” Farm in which
was obviously “up-hill both ways” to get to school in the snow. After attending Prattsburgh High
School he went on to Cornell University where he studied Plant Sciences and was heavily
involved in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity for many years to come. Bill later went on to the
University of Delaware where he earned his Phd. In Plant Physiology and he met his beloved
wife Deborah K Romig of 45 years.
They later settled in Yorktown Heights, NY where Bill worked for General Foods, perfecting the
Columbian coffee bean. You’re Welcome!
They welcomed 3 children between 1972 and 1977 when a new career opportunity brought
them to Moorestown, NJ in 1988. Bill took pride in organizing, improving, developing and
mentoring and was always dedicated to anything which he or his family was passionate about
and why he became an integral part in starting the Moorestown Lacrosse club. There were
many hobbies and interests over the years but his true love was found when they started riding
touring motorcycles up and down the east coast and it was hard to keep them off the road.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease his drive to help and improve life for others
never stopped, he selflessly committed to participating in research over the past 15 years. His
dedication didn’t stop with people, as Bill became involved in the plans to build the Presley
Memorial Dog Park. We all know his dog Casey needed a big space to run!
William is preceded in death by his wife “Debbie,” and father “Bud” and is survived by his sisters
and Brother-n-laws, Sandy and John Heil, Judy and David Stone, Doug and Kristina Rex and
102 yo mother Doris Romig. In addition his 3 children Christy Spencer, Craig Romig (wife
Kristen), and Carey Sambogna (husband Paul) and 5 grandchildren Hailey Spencer, Liam and
Gillian Romig and John and Jack Sambogna. He will be missed dearly for his sarcastic “jabs”
and consistent eye-rolls but his legacy and all he did to help others will never be forgotten.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday July 3rd, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Bath NY with a
Celebration of Life gathering to follow from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Snug Harbor, 9068A Snug Harbor Dr. Hammondsport

Due to being here the last funeral we attended for PHILLIPS FAMILY WAS Dad`s . THE LAST TIME I saw any of you was right after when we came east the last time after our grandson was born . HE WILL BE 17 THIS WEEK. Edna has a bunch of us 1st cousins at her place when we were on the east coast and also Aunt Doris. It was very enjoyable. We saw some of the cousins we had not seen in years. …especially Marilyn and Bruce. Within not a long time the following had died…. Kenny, Sylvia, Edna, Marilyn`s husband Dwayne, Colleen`s Dave, Betty and her husband Bud who had died earlier , Bruce, Bob and Tom Greek and now Marilyn and Bill. There may be others I am not aware of. Someone please Email and bring me up to date. I would very much like news of the family.
Howard and I have been here since after the flood in Elmira that wrecked our place in 1972. We have 4 kids….the twins Scott and Steve who are now 60 and our daughters who many of you never saw…Tami who we adopted from Sri Lanka in 1976 and our youngest by birth was is 46 . Krista and her husband Jeremy have our 2 grandkids who are Aislynn who turned 21 today and Jaden who will be 17 on the 4th of July. Tami shares a birthday with Aunt Doris on the 9th and will be 48. You may not realize that our view of family has been almost 100% deaths for many years. Our grandparents, parents and all aunts and uncles in both families are dead except for Aunt Doris. She came to visit us once as did Bill years ago when we lived in Forest Grove. I have no idea how each of your family`s are , where you all are and how many kids and grandkids you may have. WE never had grandkids until we were 60 and only 2. Both of us will be 82nd on our next birthday. Howard had a major heart attack and open heart surgery in 2017 and how also has kidney disease 4th stage. I have had 2 strokes and am almost totally mobile with a cane so far. We live in a senior mobile home park NW of Portland, Oregon about 50 miles from the ocean. WE rarely go out except for groceries and medical reasons. Joyce is back to going by Phillips after her second divorce. She is retired and in southern Pa. Brother Dave retired from Air Force and lives in Texas. His health has not been good at all. Recently he had cancer radiation treatments. Sorry about all the sad news. It is our norm unfortunately.
AS for Bill…..the last time we saw him his wife was still alive and they and Judy and Dave came to the reunion on the motorcycles. What a fun memory to have. WE did not have a lot of memories of Bill as we lived 3000 miles away for the last 50 years or so and have not . WE did enjoy his visit and hearing about his travels for work. We had heard he was ill and his mom not doing too well either. But we hear very little . I hope this will spur some Emails or letters our direction. We need more current info. Love and miss your smiling faces

My favorite memory was of Aunt Doris one time in Penn Yan in her house with her legs thrown up over the arm of a chair watching TV. Did you know she was the maid of honor when Mom and Dad married and she was about 17 or 18 at the time? I think it was 1940. I am sorry to hear she is not doing well.
