David B. Jacobs
HENRIETTA/HORNELL – David B. Jacobs, 87, of Henrietta, NY, a native of Hornell, entered into rest Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25, 2024) at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester, NY surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Montour Falls, NY on March 15, 1936, he was a son of the late William and Elnora (Barrett) Jacobs. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, David Joseph Jacobs in May of 1994; one brother, William (Ann) Jacobs; two nephews, William “Billy” Jacobs and Kevin Jacobs; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Irma Colamarino; his brother-in-law, Guido Colamarino; cousins-in-law, August “Augie” (MaryAnn) Ciancaglini and Josephine “Josie” Ciancaglini.
A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1954, David graduated from Alfred University, School of Engineering. While a student at Alfred University he was a member of ROTC. After graduation he proudly began his service with the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and was discharged as a First Lieutenant.
David began his career at Carborundum in Niagara Falls, NY as a manager and was transferred to their Logan, OH location where he was a plant manager. He eventually returned to Niagara Falls in 1969 and in 1976 was transferred to Rutland, VT and returned to Niagara Falls in 1979. After his “retirement” he became employed with Buffalo China until about 1994.
He resided in Grand Island, NY for many years before moving to Dansville, NY where he resided for 10 years. Since 2016 he has resided in Henrietta NY and was a communicant of St. Louis Church in Pittsford, NY.
David enjoyed fishing, hunting and antique and classic cars. He was a member of the LaSalle Sportsmen’s Club in Niagara Falls, the Dansville Fish and Game Club.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jo (Colamarino) Jacobs, who he married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Oct. 18, 1958; one daughter, Linda (Michael) DeCocq of Pittsford, NY; one grandson, David DeCocq of Gates, NY; a niece, Kristen (Bryan) Karl; a nephew Brian Jacobs; niece-in-law, Beth Ann Jacobs; two great nieces, Brianna (Mike) Shafer and Vanessa Jacobs; cousins-in-law, Michael Ciancaglini, James Ciancaglini, MaryKay Dwyer and JoAnn (Shane) McMahon.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Avenue, Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday (March 1, 2024). Committal prayers and interment, with full military honors, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
