AVOCA – Steven Clair Swimley passed away unexpectedly Monday (Dec. 18, 2023) with his loving daughter, Sara Knowles and her family by his side.

Steven was born February 24,1960 to Clair & Phyllis Swimley. Steven was the baby of the family. He is survived by his three sisters, Louise, Margaret, and Helen; his children include Jessica, Amanda, Sara, and Amy; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Steven in his younger years was a motorhead. He worked for Sparky Hills in Gang Mills in his machine shop often toting his young daughters along. Steven held a special place in Sparky & Fran’s heart, he was like one of their own children. Steven went to work for RL Callahan for over 20 years. He was a jack of all trades for them from driving dump trucks, often giving his daughters rides to working on heavy equipment. He even used to be a troublemaker for Rollin, helping him cheat on the diet his wife had set or him. When Rollin retired and the business closed Steven went to work for Gas Field Specialist. There he worked with some of his coworkers from Callahan’s. He met one gentleman he liked to share stories with, Matt Cady. Matt had a truck he built for truck pulls. Steven loved the excitement of Matt and his pulling truck.

After Covid hit and the loss of his own father Steven retired. He lived life to the beat of his own drum. Kinda like rules don’t apply to me. Steve lived in an apartment upstairs of John and Peggy’s house for many years, whom he had so many fond memories with. In April of 2021 Steve bought his first home to be closer to Frank and Sara and the grandchildren, Sara started a Saturday morning family breakfast ritual. Steven really enjoyed spending time with Emily, Chase, Easten, and Grace. He would always end up going home with prepared meals for the rest of the week. He would give us grief saying you want me to be fat or something.

Steven had his go to friend Ed Lewis they would take off on day road trips together coming back talking about the amazing food they had when they were gone. He rekindled his connection with the Dewert grandchildren and spent some much-needed quality time with the girls he wasn’t allowed to have.

In honoring Steven’s wishes there will be no services. He also asked us not to wallow in our sorrow. Have a silver bullet, make sure the mountains are blue before you do. Be present and remember the words that come out of your mouth can never be unsaid. Rest easy Dad you will be missed by many xoxo.
