Paula Hunt Stull
ALFRED STATION – Paula Hunt Stull, 93, of Alfred Station died Wednesday, September 13, 2023. She was the elementary school nurse for 25 years at Alfred Almond Central School, where she was known and loved by multiple generations of students and their parents.
Born in Canton, NY in 1930, Paula was the daughter of the late Mary and Lee Hunt. In 1952 she graduated from the University of Rochester with her B.S. and R.N. Degrees. She joined the faculty of Alfred Almond Central School as the elementary school nurse in September 1964 and remained there for the rest of her career.
She was an avid sailor, and summer would find her sailing daily on Keuka Lake with her husband, John. She also loved animals, adopting many rescue dogs and cats during her lifetime…and rescuing earthworms from the pavement when it rained. A long-time fitness buff, she raced bicycles several times, usually winning her age group. At 79, she said her 10-mile training rides “only average 15 mph.” She had hoped to see the total solar eclipse in New York State on April 8,2024, having traveled much farther afield with John to attend previous eclipses in Aruba and the Gaspe Peninsula of Canada. For the upcoming one, she will join her family in spirit.
Paula is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Marylee Stull (W. David) Ashby, son and daughter-in-law Peter H. (Linda) Stull, grandchildren Joshua Ashby, Rebecca Ashby, Abby Stull (Nathan) Sawyer, and Rachel Stull (Nathan) Woodruff, great grandsons Sam Sawyer, Jack Sawyer, Carson Woodruff, and Weston Woodruff, and her beloved rescue dog, Cookie. She was predeceased by John, her husband of 60 years and her sister, Barbara Munschauer.
Paula spent the last two months of her life at Elderwood at Hornell, where the staff treated her and her family tenderly and with loving care during the last two months of her life.
A celebration of her life will be arranged and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Paula would wish you to donate to your favorite animal rescue group in her memory.
The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Paula’s family with the arrangements.
Online condolences or remembrances of Paula are welcome below in the comment section or on the Facebook page of Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home.
Dear Peter, So sorry to hear about your mom. She was such a lovely lady and loved by so many….staff and students alike! May God bring you peace at this sad time.
Kathy & I were pleased that Paula & John could help us celebrate the joining of two families, on our wedding day 19 years ago. It was a great wedding and reception after and Paula & John only made it that much more special to us. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. R.I.P. Cousin Paula.
My deepest condolences to the Stull family for the loss of their mother, Paula Stull. My mom, Josephine Egger had the privilege of being Pauls’s roommate for 4 weeks. There was wonderful conversations with Paula’s family which i will always remember. My mom passed away on Sept. 12 th, one day before Paula’s passing. My heart told me that these two very special women will be meeting up together in their new life…i have no doubts. Blessings on the whole Stull famuly🙏💐❤️
Thank you, Mary. We’ve been thinking about you and your mom… ❤️💔
