On Memorial Day the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. co-sponsors with Doug’s Flower Shop in Hornell a Balloon Release to honor any veteran that has passed away the previous year. This takes place at the annual Memorial Day service at the Broadway Mall sponsored by the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post in Hornell. As the names of the veterans who have passed away are read, family members are given the opportunity to release either a red, white or blue balloon in memory of their loved one. A small keepsake provided by the funeral home is also presented to a family member.
