Winston D. Slayton
COHOCTON-Winston D. Slayton, 90, of Cohocton, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2024) at the Elcor Nursing Facility in Horseheads, NY.
Born on Sept. 6, 1933, he was a son of the late Ernest D. and Neva (Towner) Slayton. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Carlton Slayton. On Sept. 9, 1954 he was married at the former Wallace Methodist Church to Rita (Magee) Slayton, who survives.
He was employed as a dairy farmer and cattle trucking.
A member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO), he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed farming, trucking, snow mobiling and stock car racing.
Besides his wife, Rita, he is lovingly survived by four children, Jeffrey Slayton of Montana, Debra (Stephen) Dodds, Bret Slayton and Forrest (Kelly) Slayton all of Cohocton; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eloise Bowers of Elmira, NY; one brother, William Slayton of Wallace, NY; 2 sisters-in-law, Jeri Slayton of Avoca and Donna Magee of Savona, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be an hour of calling from 1-2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16, 2024) at the Avoca Methodist Church, where a funeral setvice will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Barre Butts officiating. Interment will be in Mapleview Cemetery, Cohocton.
