Wilma M. Moore

HAMMONDSPORT – Wilma M. Moore, a longtime resident of Hammondsport, NY and Bushnell, FL passed away peacefully at the young age of 93, on March 22, 2023, following a gradual decline in health.

Born on May 6, 1929 in Corning, she was the daughter of the late Lyman Edwards and Bertha Winfield. In addition to her parents, Wilma was predeceased by her loving husband Richard Moore in 2007, beloved daughter Sharon Moore in 2013 as well as all her siblings.

Wilma graduated from Addison Central High School in 1945 and started working for Corning Incorporated in the factory.  After 40 years of dedicated service, she retired from Corning Inc. in 1985.  She was honored with her 50 years of service pin in 1995 and recognized again for 75 years of service in 2020.

Wilma loved to travel.  Many hours were spent on the road and in the air between Florida and New York.  She enjoyed her winters in Florida and summers on Keuka Lake.  She appreciated the countless vacations taken with Dick along with cherished family and friends.  In Florida, she could be found at numerous flea markets looking for her next piece of beautiful jewelry or bingo halls on the weekends ready to collect her winnings.  Through the years, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, crossword puzzles, watching game shows (especially Family Feud) and playing cards (especially Scat with everyone at Keuka Lake).  During the summer, she was always creating snack platters and cooking for all of us.  Hands down, she made the best brownies and peanut butter pie.  Above all, no matter where she was, she enjoyed every precious minute spent with family and couldn’t get enough hugs from all of us!  She always reminded us that it was never goodbye but always so long, see you later ♥.

Wilma is survived by her son, David Moore (Debbie) of Hammondsport, NY; her granddaughters Christine Mohr (Darron) of Big Flats, NY, Melanie (Isaac) Gotcher of Phoenix, AZ and Cassandra Ribble of Horseheads, NY; four great-grandchildren who she adored with her whole heart: Dylan, Aidan, Madison and Hailey.

Many heartfelt thanks to all her caregivers at both Ira Davenport Skilled Nursing Facility (Fred and Harriet Taylor Health Center) and Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence.  You were all more than caregivers; you were like family.  You are all truly appreciated!

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours or services.  Interment will be at Bath National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron Street, Bath NY 14810 or any SPCA of your choosing.  Wilma had a special place in her heart for all the grand “fur babies.”
