ARKPORT-Wilma M. Martell, 88, passed away peacefully late Monday evening (April 26, 2021), surrounded by her family at her home on Sharps Hill Road.

Born in Bieber, Germany on November 5, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Wilhelm and Maria (Schaaf) Lukel. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Fritz and Heinz Luckell.

On February 11, 1959 she was married in Germany to N. Allen Martell, Jr., who survives. In May of 1959 Wilma immigrated to New York City and in July of 1959 she and her husband, Allen came to Hornell where they resided for several years and in November of 1966 they built their home in Arkport and have resided there for nearly 55 years.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell where she was a Deacon and also served on the Floral Committee for about 12 years.

Wilma was a devoted homemaker and was an avid gardener and also enjoyed making miniature collectables.

Her loving family includes her husband of 62 years, Allen; three children, Claudia Martell of Southampton, Long Island, Dawn Brown of Arkport and Erik Martell of Cape Coral, Florida; four grandchildren, Jennifer Piliero (Jason Miller) of Canisteo, NY, Matthew Brown (Amanda Spuck) of Lima, NY, Sabrina Jones of Hornell and Hunter Martell of Long Island; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Graham, Kadyn Piliero, Ayden Jones, Skyler Jones and Bradleigh Brown; two sisters, Klara Radford of Texas and Elli (Bill) Orr of Mississippi; one sister-in-law, Diana (late George C.) Neumann of North Attleboro, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to join her family at the United Presbyterian Church, 150 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held in her memory at 2 p.m. Saturday (May 1, 2021) with the Rev. Katherine Griffis officiating. Interment will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 150 Main St., Hornell or to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7648 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843
