William D. Evans

HASKINVILLE/COHOCTON-William Davis Evans passed away Tuesday morning (Feb. 2, 2021) at home.

William “Bill” was born on Aug. 10, 1937 at the home of his parents, Earl and Helen (Beam) Evans on Neils Creek, County Road 6, Cohocton, N.Y.

Bill attended Avoca Central School then went to six months basic training in the Army, followed by eight years of the Army Reserves. He was employed at Birdseye in Wayland, N.Y. and Gunlocke in Wayland, N.Y. for a few years. He married the former Lorna Grant on July 25, 1959. He worked at the Cohocton Creamery, Kordite in Macedon, N.Y. and Westinghouse in Bath, N.Y. while they lived in Naples, N.Y. They bought the Austin Evans farm in 1963 where they resided for 30 years. They then moved a half mile down Neils Creek and put up a doublewide. He was also employed for 20 years at Foster-Wheeler, Inc. in Dansville, N.Y. and drove morning bus runs for 20 years at Avoca Central School. From 1987 to 2002 he drove over the road truck for J.B. Hunt. Upon retirement he drove for five years for Wilkins RV of Bath, N.Y. His last employment was for two years at Hornell Area Transit (HAT).

He enjoyed riding motorcycle, camping, gospel music and was an avid reader.

He was a member of the Haskinville Wesleyan Church for 40+ years. He served the Lord as secretary, treasurer of the Sunday School, a trustee and treasurer of the Parsonage Building project and a board member. He was a member of the Wallace Wesleyan Church for 12 years.

Bill is survived by his wife; Lorna; three sons, David Evans of Cohocton, N.Y., John (Tammy) Evans of Cohocton, N.Y. and Mark (Melissa) Evans of Hornell, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 6, 2021) at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a memorial service will be held following calling hours at 3 p.m. THOSE ATTENDING THE CALLING OR SERVICE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACE MASK AND USE HAND SANITIZER AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AFTER ENTERING THE FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery, Neils Creek.
