HORNELL – Thomas Robert Dwyer, age 72, formerly of Hornell, New York, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Cuba Memorial Hospital in Cuba, New York, after a long battle with diabetes.
Tom was born in Hornell, New York, on January 9, 1954, to John Harold and Edna (Andrus) Dwyer. He was a lifelong resident of Hornell, where he attended St. Ann’s Elementary and Hornell High School, graduating with the Class of 1972, where he played baseball.
After graduating from high school, Tom worked at the former Tire World, and later worked for Jack L. White Construction, followed by many years as a crane operator for General Electric, Morrison- Knudsen Railroad and Alstom.
Tom had a deep passion for fishing, hunting, and walks in nature, and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. He was deeply knowledgeable about the Finger Lakes region. He had many lifelong friends with whom he spent quality time doing the things he loved, and he was always grateful for all those who helped him along the way.
Tom was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church, a member of the Hornell Alumni Association, and a member of the Hornell American Legion Post #440.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Edna Dwyer, and his brother, Jess Dwyer.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Dwyer (Jessica), of Alfred Station; his daughter, Susan Dwyer (Carl Emerson), of Hornell; his sister, Charlotte Giglio (Francis), of Hornell; his brother, Joseph Dwyer (Dawn Porter), of Hornell; and his sister, Mary Lynn Gaddis (Alan), of Newport Beach, California.
Tom’s grandchildren include Morgan Giglio, Logan and Gavin Dwyer, Quinn Stillman, and Frederick Emerson.
Other surviving relatives include Fran (Grace) Giglio; Jamie (Emma) Krenn; Mary Kay Dwyer; Adam (Elizabeth and River) Dwyer; and Austin (Kerri and Harper) Dwyer; as well as Riley, Mackenzie, Zoey, and Jake Gaddis. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Robert and Patricia Dwyer (Arkport NY) and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Almond Rod & Gun Club DEC Camp Fund; Checks to be made out to the Almond Rod & Gun Club c/o Heidi Markel, 206 Lincoln Street, Hornell, NY 14843.
Calling hours and a funeral service in his memory will take place at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell in NOVEMBER at a date and time to be announced.
