Shirley B. Fervan

AVOCA-Shirley B. Fervan, 90, of Avoca, passed away Sunday (Oct. 24, 2021) at her home, surrounded by her children.

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Jack; two sisters, Jeanne Gallup and Mary Page; her parents, Emil and Edna (Logan) Banzhof; and her grandson, Patrick D. Fervan (2018).

Shirley grew up and attended school in Elmira, NY. She married Jack in 1952, they traveled briefly with his military enlistment and finally settled in Avoca when Jack purchased the Avoca Pharmacy.

Shirley and Jack raised three children, Douglas Fervan, Mechele (Wayne) Benton and Daniel (Rebecca Baker) Fervan. They were blessed with seven grandchildren, Patrick Fervan (2018), Sarah (Caleb) Lim, Bradley Benton, Aaron Benton, Emily Benton, Alexander (Alyssa Proper) Fervan and Christopher (Emily Stilson) Fervan.

Shirley made her career caring for her family always loving to share their activities. She was involved in many community organizations trying to keep Avoca a better place to live. She loved traveling, but couldn’t wait to come home. Her sweet smile and kind heart will be greatly missed.

There will be an hour of calling from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 27, 2021) at the Avoca United Methodist Church where a funeral service will immediately follow. Private interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
