RUTH GRIFFIN ROGERS
HORNELL-Ruth Griffin Rogers, 97, formerly of Manlius, N.Y., passed away peacefully Monday afternoon (April 14, 2014) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.
Born in Olean on January 3, 1917, she was a daughter of the late James and Katherine Wiles Griffin. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her greatest love, her husband and friend, Jack Rogers; her two brothers, Jerry Griffin and Dr. Jack Griffin and her two sisters, Mary Campbell and Irene Buchheit.
Her family moved to Hornell from Olean and Ruth graduated from Hornell High School and the Federal Commercial School.
She was employed in Hornell at the dental office of her brother, Dr. Jack Griffin, as his assistant and office manager. Upon moving to Syracuse she was employed for over 40 years as office manager at the dental office of Dr. Henry Cramer.
Ruth was an avid golfer and bridge player as a member of the Cavalry Club in Manlius. She was a long time communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Manlius where she also served as an usher.
Her loving family includes several nieces and nephews, James (Cindy) Griffin, Kay (Dave) Davin, Nancy Griffin Shadd, Joan (Pat) Donaldson, Betsy Parker, Kathy (Bill) Root, John (Liz) Campbell and Mary Lou Gudelis; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Ruth Griffin Rogers.
There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt, N.Y.
