Ronald Lee “Ron” Saltsman

AVOCA-Ronald Lee “Ron” Saltsman, 75, of Michigan Hollow Road, passed away early Monday evening (July 25, 2022) at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, after a long illness.

Born in Bath on July 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Albert and Reliance (Johnson) Saltsman. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Wilbur Weaver.

Ron has resided his entire life on the family farm, “Star Mountain Farm” on Michigan Hollow Road. He was a graduate of Avoca Central School and received an associate degree in diesel mechanics from Alfred State College.

He was self-employed for many years and was employed for 20 years at R.C. Billings and two years for Suit-Kote in Bath. Most recently he was a truck driver for his son, Tracy at Saltsman Trucking in Avoca.

Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed farming and hunting, especially deer hunting. He also owned Belgian Horses and loved Oliver farm equipment.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Alice S. (Forbes) Saltsman, who he married Nov. 14, 1987; two sons, Tracy Lee Saltsman and Joseph Ronald Saltsman, both of Avoca; four step-children, Pattie Ann Bell of Loudon, NH, Darrell (Wendy) Ollman of Derry, NH, Pamela (Frank) Ramirez of Del Rio, TX and Wendy (Patrick) Glenn of Vidor, TX; six grandchildren, Samantha Wightman of Syracuse, NY, Maxx “Maja” Saltsman of Avoca, Keelan (Dylan) Saltsman of Camp Lejeune, NC, Joseph (Paige) Saltsman of Addison, NY, Kayla (Joel) Dean of Addison, NY and Krista Saltsman of Savona, NY; seven great-grandchildren; and 14 step-grandchildren.

To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
