ROGER B. HEERS

LIMA/NORTH HORNELL-Roger B. Heers, 84, of Lima, formerly of Seneca Road, North Hornell, passed away Saturday morning (April 30, 2011) at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
Born in Hornell on Dec. 4, 1926, he was a son of the late Harold and Cecil Cornish Heers. On Aug. 29, 1964 he was married in Hornell to the former Marilyn Simms, who survives.
A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1945, Roger served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to his honorable discharge in 1947.
He resided in the Village of North Hornell for 43 years before moving to Lima three years ago.
Roger was employed as a salesman for the former Russ Davis Ford in Hornell before he began his employment with Loohn’s Cleaners & Launderers in Hornell where he retired as a salesman.
A member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell, where he served as a trustee, he also served as a trustee for the Village of North Hornell for 20 years.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, art painting and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles.
His family includes his wife of nearly 47 years, Marilyn; his two daughters, Melissa (Russ) Holsopple of Lima and Kristen (Russ) Dack of Mendon; his four grandchildren, Morgan and Abbey Holsopple and Owen and Olivia Dack; also several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Harold Heers.
Calling hours are (please note time change) from Noon- 1 p.m. Monday, May 9 at the Davidson Memorial Chapel of the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell where a funeral service will be held in his memory following calling hours at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, with the Rev. David Kilgore officiating. Private interment, with military honors, will be at Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
