Robert S. Spicer

Robert S. Spicer

CANISTEO – Robert S. “Bob” Spicer, 61, of Spruce Street, entered into rest to be with his Lord on Friday morning (Nov. 17, 2023) at Elderwood at Hornell, following a long illness.

Born in Jasper, NY on Jan. 3, 1962 he was a son of the late Bernard Simpson and Evelyn (Leach) Simpson Spicer. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Leach

A resident of the Jasper, Hornell and Canisteo area for all of his life, Bob was a graduate of Jasper Central School. On June 9, 2001 he was married to Darlene Julian (Sulivan) at Living Waters Church in Hornell by the late Pastor Phil Casterline. Bob and Darlene have resided at their home on Spruce Street in Canisteo for the past 11 years.

He was employed as sales representative with Relex in Elmira, NY.

A die-hard Buffalo Bills fan and an excellent cook, Bob enjoyed a nice steak on the barbeque. He liked music and especially enjoyed drives with Darlene throughout the countryside.  Bob loved people and made everyone feel comfortable around him because of his “dry” sense of humor. He was a faithful member of Living Waters Church in Hornell where he was devoted to taking care of the sound board for services.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 22 years, Darlene; two stepsons, Joshua Julian of Florida ad Matthew Sullivan of Rochester, NY; five amazing grandchildren that he was proud of; his stepfather, Lonnie Spicer of Bath, NY; one sister, Sue Robbins of Florida; two brothers, Roy Simpson of Georgia and Joe Spicer of Corning, NY; also several nieces and nephews and cousins; as well as his beloved kitty, Buttons.

There will be no calling hours. A service will take place in his memory at a date and time to be announced at the Living Waters Church in Hornell for his church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers and because of his love for animals, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Bob’s family with the arrangements.

Online condolences or remembrances of Bob are welcome below in the comment section or on the Facebook page of Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home.
